It seems that I was wrong on Balmain's seeming exclusivity. I had lamented on the fact that it was so hard to find any pictures from behind the scenes, but I've recently stumbled upon quite a few. You may have seen the same set ups from previousposts but albeit these are at different angles. There are some new shots as well including Daria and Balmain designer Christophe Decarnin ... I'll find it quite hard to believe if Daria doesn't end up with the Balmain campaign!
There is also something else to add. Daria has her first editorial of the new decade (funny how the fashion world is already a month ahead of the real world!) in the January 2010 issue of Vogue US. It is entitled "Go West" and the man behind the lens is photographer Patrick Demarchelier. If you can recall, earlier this year Daria appeared in Indian Summer in Vogue UK . Judging from the title of the Vogue US editorial and Patrick Demarchelier's penchance for travel editorials it might be another location piece. But Demarchelier is also known for his studio work at Vogue so it could go either way.
Trust Daria to walk in the most elusive show of Paris fashion week. In fact, I think Balmain is the most guarded presentation of all fashion weeks, save maybe for Maison Martin Margiela. What I mean to say is that pictures from Daria's appearance have been very hard to find. It seems that every backstage photography site that I come across has every show's images uploaded except for Balmain. In fact, the backstage images in the post below took a few weeks to surface! That is why, when visiting a favourite site of mine today it was quite the treat to come upon a beautiful image like this:
Daria was captured through the lens of Delphine Achard, a talented French beauty photographer who manages to capture great portraits amidst the backstage chaos. If you have time visit her site at www.delphineachard.com . I've written about backstage photography before but I will say it again - I love how photographers like Delphine manage to capture the little secluded moments in the busiest of times ... Hopefully there are more images like this but for now I think we can be pleased! And if that image isn't enough to intrigue you take a look at more of Achard's images below :)
P.S. Daria's appearance in a SS10 DSquared campaign is all but confirmed ... but more on that later!
I've changed up the posts a bit to make a gallery, so I'm very sorry if your comments got deleted! As it stands, I think I shall divide the new pictures from Balmain into two categories - the runway, which you can see here, this gallery for candids (my favourite, and I will tell you why). As soon as I learned Daria walked the Balmain runway I was curious to see whether or not she would be captured by Tommy Ton, of jak&jil fame, and I was right! To the right is my favourite picture so far - Tommy always captures his subjects in such an enlightened way and the composition is beautiful ... Before I ramble on any further about photography, I must say why I love candid shots. Of all of the pictures that encompass a models career I always find something so revealing about candids - its like taking away the mask. And it doesn't hurt that models always have the most impeccable style! Below you have a gallery of Daria backstage, getting her makeup done, posing with designer Christophe Decarnin and goofing off with her friend Carmen Kass. I've also updated the runway gallery which as of now has 33 pictures! (And a tip for looking through the gallery - you can use your arrow keys to move left and right - I think it makes it much easier!) I've also added all of the Balmain videos to The Daria Files video gallery, which you can see here.
New pictures today of a behind the scenes shooting of a new Lancome campaign "Declaring Indigo". Daria is the face of the latest fall makeup collection. I'm still amazed at the excessive amount of photoshop Lancome uses but news is always nice. I've found four images so far, three from behind the scenes (the campaign was shot by Mario Sorrenti) and one from the final cut. I've also found an image for the Lancome Oscillation line - it is for Lancome Oscillation Powerbooster (the last image in the set). Why don't they just call it mascara! Not many people will get to wash an elephant in their lives, but Daria is one of the lucky few (or unlucky - whichever way you see it!). Vogue.co.uk posted a behind the scenes video for the Indian Summer editorial in Vogue UK June 2009. It is quite long, and has no interviews, but rather shots of the location and some footage of editorial shots. Here is the link
P.S. I'd like to say thanks to all of those that follow the site - it's great to see that there are readers!
The making of video for Lancome Hypnose Senses. I don't know if it's just me, but is there supposed to be any noise in this video? Either way, its beautiful!
Daria is the face of the new Lancome Hypnose Senses, a new take on the Lancome Hypnose perfume. I've found both backstage and final campaign images, with the shooting of as well. The aim is a Parisian mystique. The airbrushing is not quite as bad as it used to be and these shots are quite beautiful and light. Hopefully they will make some type of commercial to go along!
Some more glimpses of the H&M by Matthew Williamson campaign with Daria. Daria and Matthew "traveled all the way to Mexico to shoot what could be a studio shot, but the airtime was done for the sunlight on the Mexican beach." Hmm, given that they made that big of a carbon footprint just to shoot a studio image is a bit questionable. Hopefully they'll have some beach shots to make up for that!
An extensive site on Daria Werbowy the Polish born Ukranian-Canadian model who stormed the fashion world with her irresistible laid back look and those feline eyes. Candids, backstage images, editorials and covers can all be found here.
