A cute candid of Daria back when she rocked the Joni Mitchell hair. This this is from a party at Regine’s nightclub in Paris on March 7th, 2010 other photos of which you can see here.
We haven't seen a lot of candids of Daria recently so it's nice to see something from a party a while back. And now we know what her favourite pose of the night was!

I knew those photos of Daria by Cass Bird had to amount to some press. Daria is on the cover and is inside the newest issue of Dossier. And yes, just because I didn't know what it was either ... Dossier is a biannual independent magazine published for people who like their magazines with some substance. They have a really well curated site if you want to take a visit.

Daria will be in a photo editorial shot at her home by Cass Bird. We've all seen her home in previous articles, but its nice to see different perspectives, especially from a photographer like Bird. Its also great to see Daria in lesser known publications like Dossier. I've written about certain artistic freedom present with freelance photographers compared to the well knowns like Testino and Demarchelier, and I think this freedom translates to publications as well. Its not often you see such an unretouched image on covers these days, free of hair styling or unflattering makeup. Its also a great testament to the fact that a smaller publication can make Daria look the most young and beautiful she's looked in a while.
Also, I just read up on some interesting information. Fashionologie recently posted a piece on Marc Jacob's Fall 2010 collection for Louis Vuitton. If you remember it was the collection heralding a comeback of sorts of the "womanly" model. In Marc's words: “I believe that these iconic, larger-than-life women are very Vuitton-like . . . This season we talked about it and we decided the criteria was, they have to be available on the day of the show and they have to be gorgeous," ... We wanted Daria [Werbowy], but she was booked for a shoot.'" It's interesting to hear his take on a new modeling phenomena. Seeing Daria on the Vuitton catwalk would have been great, in all of the Bardot inspired dresses. But at least we know there is a new shoot to come from this!

Thanks to MariyaS at tFS for the heads up on these beautiful pictures of Daria. I am sure you will become as much enamoured with them as I am, not just for the subject but for the beauty of the photos. Cass Bird is behind these lovely portraits, a great New York photographer. I've written of her before on my other blog, and visited her site often times, so I'm not surprised that she is behind these. If you have free time then please take a visit to her photography site, cassbird.com, to see her wonderful portraits and fashion photography. I have to warn you though ... she's photographed Ethan Hawke and Sam Rockwell so extreme jealousy may ensue!

Is is just me or do any of you find Daria's work with the more obscure photographers, Cass Bird and Derek Kettella, to be far more impressive than the ones with well known photographers like Testino or Demarchelier. There is something much more alluring and sincere about photographers that don't have to live up to the request of fashion magazines, and who are more focused on their subject than how this seasons shoe is lit. That's why its always so much more satisfactory to see such carefree images such as these where it is obvious thats its just two friends and the camera between them!
These candid photos aren't the only ones to be released as of late. Daria was out and about quite a lot during fashion week and this time she actually let herself be photographed once in a while. And with Jessica Miller nonetheless - I'm sure for you old time fashion followers this is a treat! There are a few nice candids, but most are blurred dancing shots - if you're really interested in seeing more then just visit thecobrasnake or guestofaguest (they have some blurry shots up there).

A quick post to fill you in on some news. Still in Paris, Daria made an appearance at Le Baron soaking up the Parisian fashion week parties. Erin Wasson and Lindsay Lohan were among the guests (I won't delve further into that last entity ...). It seems that all of Paris is on a non stop party circuit! I don't blame Daria for stopping by a few! I don't know if there are any major shows left to walk but so far Daria hasn't done any runway so this trip seems to be more for play than work.
Also, I can't download the video now but follow the link here to watch a new video of Daria. It is behind-the-scenes of an upcoming campaign for Canadian luxury retail store The Room. If you remember a while back, Daria was at the grand opening of the boutique. Daria looks great from the previews shown, especially in the pink feather dress at right. Thankfully that uber tan from her summer sailing has faded away a bit. Greg Kadel is the photographer and he always manages to
produce a good studio shoot so I'm excited to see how this turns out. I'll pop by the Toronto store over the next few weeks to see if they have a campaign booklet!
And yes I haven't forgotten about the last few editorials. It seems that every time I sit down to write something about them another job or duty comes up. And the past few weeks have been nonstop Daria news (although I'm not complaining!) Sorry again for the painfully slow posting - I'll be sure to post whenever I can!
Edit: Endless boredom and a screencapping frenzy later, I made a few stills from the video. I just really like the overall styling and direction of this campaign, and I haven't even seen the images yet!

Daria is in Paris! No Balmain runway but Daria made an apperance at two events over the past two days, Viktor & Rolf's five-year anniversary party for its scent Flowerbomb and Vogue Paris' temporary Fashion Week pop-up bar at the Hôtel de Crillon. Daria was in good company, or rather everyone else was, as Emmanuelle Alt, Natasha Poly and Grace Jones were among the guests she mingled with.
First stop was the Vogue Bar. Picture this - a bevy of fashion week models, Carine Roitfeld and co. .... and you have a quintessential Paris Fashion Week party. I hope the picture of Emmanuelle and Daria means more work in the near future. I'm guessing she is as curious as the rest of us to see how Daria's new hair will be styled!

After the Vogue Bar it was off to Viktor and Rolf's party where an impromptu appearance by Grace Jones made the night. Daria was overheard saying « She’s a legend. Very few people like that still exist » From an article in WWD Daria divulged that she would be devoting time to her art projects, mostly black-ink drawings. We've seen peeks of her art before, and hopefully she will be willing to show her work again!
Also a few quick words to say that Daria's newest Vogue Nippon editorial and her V editorial are both out and I will post on them as soon as I can! For now though, enjoy these candids :)

A quick post to let you know that Daria has an editorial in the March issue of US Vogue. It's probably standard Mario Testino or Mert and Marcus fare but I'm still excited to see how it turns out. Maybe it will bring a surprise ... Testino and M&M have been stepping up their game as of late.
Also, I've scanned a new image of Daria's H&M Denim campaign - you can see it in the Picture of the Moment sidebar at the right. ->

The bangs in a better (black and white) light. Seriously, this party looked like so much fun. First Patti Smith and then Santa Clause's distant sailor cousin.
Also, very off topic but worth a mention - Marc Jacobs will be streaming his Fall.Winter 2010 show live. Go to marcjacobs.com to watch, it starts in a few minutes!

It's not a runway appearance but Daria did show up in New York. She was at the LnA Afterparty at Milk Studios last night ... and she brought along a fringe with her. I'm not the biggest fan of it but maybe styled right it can look good (something like the Numéro cover).

But who cares about hair when you're at a party and Patti Smith performs. Read: Patti Smith performed. I would have been serving drinks at this party to hear that. I would have been a bathroom attendant at this party to hear that. Metric, a Canadian band who is not that bad themselves, performed as well and fellow model Agyness Deyn made an appearance. So did Daria's poncho but I can overlook that because she wore an amazing pair of leather pants.
No word yet on whether or not Daria will make an appearance on the NYC runways but that's highly unlikely. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for either Milan or Paris though!

This post has been accumulating on my dashboard for a while as I've been waiting for a proper image from the Balmain Spring Summer 2010 campaign to give my opinion. Its a far stray from previous Balmain campaigns and sadly not the greatest effort from the brand ...

Balmain's duty to Daria is unfailing and I see her as the perfect face for the brand - both feminine and boyish, an aesthetic that is identifiable to Balmain. Yet none of these characteristics are quite present in this campaign. Yes, the SS10 collection was inspired by both the army and a sense of the outdoors but I think that the art direction in this shoot was a failed interpretation of that theme. It was as if Inez and Vinoodh decided to throw in any emblem synonymous with battle in a foreign country (look a Jeep! Palm trees!) into one photo and call it a day. Of all of the campaigns this season I am least impressed by this one.
Also I didn't want to be the one to say it but seeing as how many people have brought up the topic ... Don't get me wrong - I am never one to bring up a models appearance or weight in a negative connotation but I can't help but feel that this campaign is projecting a rather unhealthy image. To be honest, Daria hasn't looked this thin since her 2005 year of modeling but in this campaign she looks downright emaciated. I am hoping that this is just the studio lighting combined with the rather unfortunate hair and makeup but this is just one of the reasons why I don't really like this ad.
But enough about Balmain - there are great new candids of old events below. Thanks to some intense sleuthing by Megan from the Daria Werbowy gallery more candids from Daria in Morocco have appeared as well as behind the scenes images from Loewe's website. Its nice to see that Daria had some fun during her work in Morocco! The candid of Daria and the long haired fellow and the one of Daria arriving at her Loewe shooting happen to be my favourites. I've said it before but I'll say it again - I love Daria's laidback style :P

As you may well know, Daria was at the reopening of the La Mamounia hotel in Marrakech, Morocco this past week. And though I thought that the excitement over that sighting had died down, there are now new pictures from this event (and then some!). Vogue columnist and party fixture Derek Blasberg posted a few candids on his twitter as well as the style.com blog. His reports make this sound like an interesting time ... "Every night ended at the leopard-heavy downstairs lounge, the Churchill Bar, where Daria Werbowy, Matthew Williamson, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and Carine Roitfeld belted out everything from Grease show tunes to Sarah McLaughlin. “Leopard carpet, cognac, and a piano? I think I found my new favorite bar ever,” Werbowy said." My thoughts are going wild imagining Carine and Daria singing a duet together! I've always heard that the fashion world is brutal, but this is quite hard to believe when you can find a Vogue editor, photographers, a designer and a model belting out music from seventies movies ... something makes me think that Anna Wintour would not be as up for it ...
Daria and Matthew Williamson ... look familiar?
Jacquetta Wheeler, Daria Werbowy and Derek Blasberg. I love Daria's laidback style!
It is Daria overload as of late! It seems as if our favourite model has racked up quite the number of flyer miles this year. Right now I can recall events in Milan, Toronto, New York, Paris (and New York again!) just in the past few months! Just on the 26th of November Daria was present at the La Mamounia hotel inaguration in Morocco, where it is rumored that she shot a DSquared campaign. Apparently, that isn't the only work that she did while in the beautiful country ... rumors abounded that Daria shot an editorial for an upcoming issue of Vogue Paris with (who else but) Inez and Vinoodh. I guess there really is no such thing as rest and relaxation in the modeling business - it is clear that models often mix work and play together! A plane flight and a few hours later Daria was in Paris for the AIDS International 25th Anniversary dinner. It is quite surprising to see Daria at such a large number of events this year - she was virtually non-existent on the part circuit all throughout 2008 and 2007! But when it is for a such a good cause then I can really appreciate it ... plus, any event with a performance by Jane Birkin and I would be there as well! Hmm ... and Daria is wearing Balmain SS10 ... I hope this means an ad campaign in the near future!
