Today is Daria's 26th birthday! I want to make a post just to say happy birthday Daria (who knows - maybe you've come across this site once), and many more to come!
I also want to make a quick shout out to all the readers of the site - thanks for coming everyday and bearing with my odd musings here and there. It's always a nice surprise to see a new follower or a comment :)
And also, a thank you to Daria who keeps inspiring me to run this site. Ever since I first became interested in models and fashion Daria was the first model I really noticed. She has managed to remain the most beautiful and interesting of the bunch! And because no post is ever complete without a picture I wanted to include this editorial below. It was the first time I learned of Daria, and coincidentally this editorial was also the first issue of Vogue that I bought (with the Presley girls on the cover). It was the Age issue and I remember devouring every article ... particularly one feature in which Daria talks of her modeling experiences so far and her life as a twenty year old woman. Who knows, maybe she'll be featured in the "Thirties" one day!

Happy Birthday Daria!
POINT BREAK | Vogue US December 2009 by Mert and Marcus
After a few restless days and multiple visits to The Fashion Spot I finally have my hands on Daria's latest editorial in Vogue. When word got out that Daria was photographed by the duo of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot a ready made picture came to mind.
Mert and Marcus are well known for their stylized and powerful depictions of woman. Though I like the editorials Daria does with Mert and Marcus - they always bring out a sense of athleticism and strength - I always feel that they are missing a humane aspect. Daria is oft found looking into the distance and there is no real connection established between the viewer and the model. Suffice to say I always find images that are able to make a connection make a larger impact. If you can recall the April 2009 Vogue US editorial "The Deep End" (both were shot by M&M) it has a similar tone and theme. The opening shot is quite dominant, but it is diluted in the later images. It isn't necessarily a bad thing though. I find myself gravitating towards this editorial more ... perhaps it is the quirkier styling or less static poses, but I find Point Break to be quite entertaining.

End of the Week Treat | Proper English
Happy Friday everyone! I thought I'd introduce a new type of post every week to end these seven days on a good note. I've always loved this editorial, "Proper English", which was in the October 2004 issue of US Vogue. Even though it is standard Testino Vogue fare, there are some beautiful pictures. Plus, I have a vice for that perfect pastoral English countryside. It brings me back to memories of visiting my Grandma in her little English village! And Happy Thanksgiving weekend to the Canadians reading this blog!
Fashion's Night Out
In relation to the Sunglass Hut post, where attendees of the annual Fashion's Night Out event can meet Daria and pose for pictures, the editorial in Vogue US' September issue is actually one shot of all participating models in FNO. Daria was shot in a huge group of gorgeous girls, but I still find her to stand out - it helps that she's standing with her body facing to the camera! And her look is very Daria - I wonder if the models got to style their outfits?

FLARE SEPTEMBER 2009 | CANADA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL
In celebration of Flare magazines 30th anniversary, the Canadian magazine has decided to place Daria Werbowy on not one but three covers for their collectors issue. Coming back from vacation and seeing this cover I wasn't surprised that Flare picked Daria as their covergirl - they've had a longstanding history of collaborations. And they didn't let down this time, as they have shot one of the best editorials to come from 2009 (and one of the best covers). Daria was shot in rough and tough leather and the Flare editorial team really played up her personal style, as opposed to giving her a character to work with. The bunny cover is my favourite as well. You can read the full interview here.

Avedon Afterparty Part Two
A while back Daria attended a party thrown by Harper's Bazaar celebrating famed photographer Richard Avedon. JD Ferguson, a former model and current agent (I think) posted the pictures on his blog, and these are the two pictures. I love how Daria manages to stand out amidst the crowd of tight Herve Leger dresses, in her beaten up leather jacket!
Also, there haven't been any HQ scans yet, but you can see the full editorial of Vogue US July 2009 here.
City of Dreams

A quick preview of Daria's editorial in Vogue July 2009. It turns out that the theme is not West Side Story, but rather a tale of two best friends (Daria and Caroline Trentini) making it big in NYC.
More pictures later ...
Indian Summer
It's often hard to pull off a travel editorial in which colonialism or white-centric elements are nonexistent. The formula in fashion magazines is
often a cacausian girl placed in an exotic setting, where she mingles with the locals in thousands of dollars worth of clothes. One often asks the question of why local models are not used in their own setting? It just never seems right when 4,000 dollar Prada shoes are shot next to an elephant.
However, I surprisingly like this editorial, and it includes stunning shots (like the one where she is on the wooden plank, the closeup with the hat ...)
What I think makes this editorial work is Demarchelier's photography and Daria's modeling. Unlike Mario Testino, who often shoots exotic locales in painfully bright chaos, Demarchelier's work in this feature is more toned down, much more sombre than Testino's but still maintains a dreamlike quality. It shies away from the extravagant, and the overplayed. It's hard to make this concept new , but Daria pulls this off with an ease and allure. Overall, I quite like this editorial. Your thoughts?

EDIT - TWO MORE PICTURES ADDED .. the last two of the gallery are new - I didn't think her solo shots could get any better!
Bare and Spare
I found these outtakes from Hedi Slimane's shoot for Vogue Paris, Hedi's Girls ... it was in 2007, and it still remains one of my favourite editorials to date. Three of these pictures are old, but one is unseen (the one in the header of the blog). I love these shots - they are so dégagé ... very loose. Hard to explain, but I think I love them because the focus is on the girls, not on the fashion. It's a shame Hedi doesn't do more editorial work with Daria
V 59 | The Swimsuit Issue
All of the images we have seen so far are the only ones from V Magazine, but here they are in high quality. I was pretty dissapointed by the cover. Daria looks like a Barbie doll - cold and shiny, but no expression. However, the accompanying pictures are not bad at all. Especially the first image featured here, the closeup in black and white. Daria is beautiful and manages to pull off a sensuality not many girls in this issue have.
Thanks to asf at thefashionspot for the images.
Free Spirit
The last of the Vogue Paris editorials have been scanned, including the stunning beauty editorial - Esprit Libre. The picture here is my favourite ...
And you can see the scans of the Inez & Vinoodh Game-Girl editorial in hiqh quality here
Thanks to diorette at theFashionSpot for the scans :)
Game Girl
More snapshots to complete the Game Girl editorial in Vogue Paris. I find this editorial so refreshing and exciting - it faintly reminds me of Bruce Weber's work, but it's clearly Inez & Vinoodh.
Vogue Paris May 2009
The Vogue Paris May 2009 cover and Game Girl editorial. I am officially enamoured with what I see so far! I can see the reference towards sixties sexploitation films. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is what immediately came to mind. I find it so much more exciting than Alt's and Inez & Vinoodh's recent work with Daria. It's so kitsch and over the top - exactly the kind of editorial I love.
Special thanks to berlinrocks at theFashionSpot for the snaps!

GALLERY UPDATED - the HQ scans by surrealseven were added
After a long wait, we finally have some images from the May issue of Vogue US. I'm surprised Daria wasn't featured in the Meisel group shot - the photographer practically made her career! But aside from that, at least she has an editorial ...
Anyways, finally the editorial. It's just a few shots for now but a very interesting and promising preview. The first shot doesn't actually look like her - it reminds me of Tanya Dziahileva! But I do love it.
Later On: After seeing the editorial in it's entirety, I can say that it's not really a hit or a miss. In terms of showcasing Daria's versatility and amazing capability of posing and channeling different characters, it works. But apart from that, I've never really been a fan of disjointed studio and background editorials. It's almost as if parts are missing, in trying to incorporate so many different ideas. It would have been much more interesting to see an expanded version of each shot, rather than a mixing of seven different photos. I am in love with the first image you see here though ...
Gallery of the Week: En Vogue
I've decided to post a gallery a week (hopefully) of rare pictures, or old editorials - a way to build up the site and to look back at beautiful work. First is En Vogue in Paris Vogue by Nathaniel Goldberg. This shoot is so nostalgic, and I think one of the first editorials where I really started to notice Daria.
The Last Magazine
Remember those beautiful images from the last magazine? Sadly, we never got scans of Daria's cover and feature, but there are a couple of higher quality shots. There are two images in the gallery - my favourite has to be the first
special thanks to the darialogist
Vogue US April 2009 | The Deep End
Finally, a new editorial in Vogue US! After a million editorials shot by Inez & Vinoodh, "The Deep End" is the newest editorial in the April issue of Vogue US, shot by Mert & Marcus
Apparently, this is only the fourth time Mert & Marcus have ever shot for US Vogue, the last full editorial they did for them was way back in March 2004.
I'd say the wait is well worth it - Daria is one of the best models out there to be showcased in a shape issue, considering you don't hold your breath when you see her in photos!
A huge thanks to surrealseven at thefashionspot for scans!
