Stylist UK April 10 2013 : Bringing Sixties Back by Victor Demarchelier

By thedariafiles · April 15, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

Finally an editorial! This is Daria's latest work in Stylist magazine, in which we saw a preview a few days ago. Daria was photographed for the cover and an editorial by Victor Demarchelier, son of photographer Patrick Demarchelier who Daria has had many chances to work with. Let's hope she continues to work with Victor because these are beautiful photos!

Bringing Sixties Back
Photographer : Victor Demarchelier
Makeup : Alex Babsky for Lancome
Hair : Nicholas Jurnjack

I've mentioned this before but I love what a different direction this is for Daria. We all know she can do the beach bum look very well but it can be quite boring when that's the only work she puts out. It's refreshing to see her channel her earlier predecessors like Twiggy! I think the Woodstock look is my favourite shot ... to live in the Sixties!

If you'd like to read the magazine the entire issue is online, as is the Stylist's archives! Daria has a little blurb inside the article as well:

"The Sixties were a time of great change and liberation and our culture is going through a similar time right now. The fact this inspiring decade is having such a resurgence across fashion, beauty and the arts now forces us to think about why the great ideals of love and peace didn't prevail. Now we're learning from what worked and what didn't to creat a better future." - Daria Werbowy

Stylist Magazine | Mod Daria

By thedariafiles · April 10, 2013 · 0 Comments ·

For Daria's second magazine cover of the year she appears on Stylist, a free weekly magazine in the UK. The cover and editorial are both photographed by Victor Demarchelier, the son of Patrick Demarchelier.

I don't think I've ever seen Daria styled in a sixties theme before so I'm really excited to see how this turns out! From the looks of the cover, and the one preview image below, Daria does quite a good job at capturing the nonchalance of the mod look.

I probably won't be able to get my hands on this so if a reader in the UK does get this then let me know what its like!

This cover and editorial might be the result of Daria's visit to London, but the lag time between candid and work seems too soon ... this may be from a prior visit? Either way its great to see so much work popping up! Also, don't forget to check out the Maiyet Spring 2013 video in the prior post!

Daria Werbowy, En La Cima

By thedariafiles · October 3, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

We've all been complaining that Daria hasn't had any new work in the past months but it turns out she has - we just haven't been that good enough of fans!Daria was on the cover of Extra a fashion supplement to Spanish news magazine El Pais Seminal. The cover and accompanying editorial inside are a beautifully photographed feature of Daria. We usually never get to see her so dressed up and these pictures are so classic and gorgeous, albeit a bit over-retouched.

David Dunan is the photographer and if I'm correct this is the first time he has worked with Daria and hopefully not the last! That first photo of Daria against the mirror is beautiful!

This magazine will probably be hard, next to impossible to get a hold of in Canada so if there are any Spanish readers that follow the blog scans would be greatly appreciated!

Before & After : Vogue Russia Preview

By thedariafiles · August 21, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

Finally we get to see what those candids of Daria and Terry were from - and I was right! Vogue Russia released a preview of their October issue in their current September one and we get to see a photo of Daria by Terry RIchardson.

Daria in the studio with Terry (left) and the finished product in Vogue Russia October 2011

I've added the candid shot above with the finished product just to see the comparison. Its quite funny to see what Daria looks like as a person and as a model - obviously two very different roles. I'm also really excited about this editorial. I think we've all had our share of beach photoshoots in the past couple of months so its great to see Daria playing something other than, well, the beach bum we know she is!

A Quick Post ...

By thedariafiles · May 26, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

... to let you know that the editorial section for 2010 and 2011 is now complete! I've just finished uploading all of the editorials from the past year so the archive there is complete! I'm just planning on buying a few magazines to make my own scans as well.

Also, Rado from tFS (thank you!) posted a new scan from Turkish Harper's Bazaar. If you remember Daria had a feature in Harper's Bazaar Dubai in 2009 photographed by Alan Gelati. The scan below is from Turkish Harper's Bazaar and the middle and far right picture are both new. If I have any Turkish readers it would be great if you could provide bigger scans! lütfen teşekkür ederim :)

And last but not least - I've made an email account where all readers of the blog and Daria fans can contact me. Feel free to email me at thedariafiles@hotmail.com - I love hearing from readers and fans!

Vogue Paris June/July 2011 | Osmose

By thedariafiles · May 26, 2011 · 0 Comments ·

With Emmanuelle Alt as the new editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris I believe we should be seeing a lot more of Daria in the coming months! After all Daria us Alts favourite model. Now, I'm not sure how I feel about Alt as an editor but you know I am all for more Daria in the magazine. For the June/July issue Daria has only one photo but a beautiful photo it is.

I have to say its one of my favourite of Daria's countless "on-the-beach" photos. The setting, colours and pose are beautiful and this image kind of reminds me of old seventies editorials like the ones Marisa Berenson used to shoot with Avedon. It would have been beautiful to see more but sometimes the best things come in smaller packages.

How to Look Good Naked

By thedariafiles · June 20, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Its been a while but the editorial in the first issue of Industrie has been scanned, a beautiful story of Lara Stone and Daria photographed by Patrick Demarchelier

How To Look Good Naked
Industrie Magazine Issue 1
Daria Werbowy and Lara Stone by Patrick Demarchelier

The editorial, a kind of recall to the late supermodel days, is a beautifully photographed spread by Patrick Demarchlier, King of black and white beach shoots. The idea isn't original but Daria and Lara are phenomenal. Especially in this first photo below of Daria with the cigarette ... I swear she is the only model who could ever turn me onto smoking again. The photo is quintessential Daria. There is something more "rough around the edges" with these photos that I felt previous editorials were lacking. The entire editorial, and Demarchelie'rs interview, is calling for another comeback of the "supermodel" and you can see definite singular characteristics in each girls' photos.

What I find a bit lacking though, is that in all the mention of the loss of the big name models and a certain celebrity to these beauties there is hardly a quote or sentence from Lara and Daria. I find it hypocritical of Industrie to lament on the lack of household names these days but then forgoe any type of view from the models themselves. To publish such a stunning editorial on the supposed top models but then leave out any mention of Daria or Lara, save for a title page shout-out is quite disheartening. Its the confusion like this that I think is really preventing any models these days from becoming public names.

I think we all know by now that Daria is not one for the voluntary supermodel status but its interesting to see the conflicting views that editors take in the game as well. Its one thing to complain about the lack of support for models but then to do nothing to curb the problem is another. Despite this confusion, in the end it looks like the wait for these scans has been appeased with such beautiful images. Not to be overly fanatic but that second image ... I would find a place on my wall for it if I could!

World Cup Fever

By thedariafiles · June 13, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Its that time again, where countless cars are adorned with flags, jerseys are being worn left and right and the nationalism is spiked up a few notches. Yes, its World Cup time! Being a complete fathers daughter I'm following just about every game (Germany 4:0!) and getting more and more excited in the process. Now, to make this post the least bit relevant for the site I wanted to drag up an old editorial. News has been slow as of late but this editorial with Daria and Cristiano Ronaldo from 2007 is sure to put you all into the FIFA spirit.

Vogue US March 2007 : The A-Team

Daria Werbowy and Cristiano Ronaldo by Mikael Jaansen

This is standard US Vogue fare, the cheesy editorial with a sports star and model. But what I liked about this photo story was the fact that Daria was playing a super manager, not just a super girlfriendd clinging to Ronaldo! Mikael took some great shots and Daria and Ronaldo look like they're having fun. Now Daria fans ... who are you cheering for?

Thursday Treat

By thedariafiles · June 10, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Apart from the Fard Fatal video that was just released its been a pretty slow news week. But I do have a new (old) picture that I missed out on a few months ago. Daria rarely makes an apperance in Vogue Italia but she did a few months ago, albeit for a small picture in a beauty article. Its really beautiful and I don't think I've ever seen it in print before although it does look a few years old. Nonetheless its beautiful and just something we need to get us to the end of the week!

Let's Get Lost

By thedariafiles · May 26, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

Daria makes a surprise appearance in the May 2010 issue of Interview magazine, in a ten page editorial entitled Let's Get Lost.

Let's Get Lost
Interview May 2010
Daria Werbowy, Ajak Deng, Oraine Barrett, Raschelle Osbourne, Sedene Blake, David Agbodji, Salieu Jalloh,Armando Cabral, Adesuwa Aigheni, Carmelita Mendes, Manuel Ramos, Kelly Moreira, Rafton Glean,Peter Giang, Dorian Cobb, Lisalla Montenegro and Pablo Contreras by Mikael Jannson

It seems that every time I post there has to be an excuse attached to it, but again I am really sorry for the delayed posts! School is almost over and my university acceptances have gone out so I will hopefully be back to regular posting soon! But for now please bear with me :) And because I can not transition in writing at all - "on to our regular programming ... "

I suppose Jannson and Interview have done their job if they have intended to create an impressive editorial. By impressive editorial I mean one which has set off quite a lot of debates and conversation. If they have tried to achieve anything beyond controversy they have undoubtedly failed. I'll start with the positive - I love when Daria works with Jannson because he always manages to produce slick and sexy editorials. Let's Get Lost is full of colour and shading, chiaroscuro and light intensity. It is enough to please the naked eye but only for a little while. Like myself you probably found yourself glancing in awe at the beautiful scenery and stunning colours, distinctly aware that the setting was a smoky dance bar probably far away in an exotic place ... and then maybe, like myself, you found yourself taking this editorial into deeper thought.

But then the multiple "why" questions arise and you ask yourself how oblivious was a magazine like Interview to put out an editorial like this. To be blunt - why is Daria the only white model? Why are her clothes detailed and rich while the others are in rags? Why is the light hitting her directly while the others are in shadows? Why is Daria so limp and lifeless when she could be just as easily lounging as the others? I could answer every one of these questions with a reasonable "fashion answer" but in real life this entire shoot just comes off as uncomfortable. Its always that foreign concept of a white man in another culture, completely avoiding blending in and instead put on an odd pedestal. This editorial came out a week ago so I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, but I'd love to hear what other readers think!
