Along with a bevy of Hollywood party goers (Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow ... o.0) Daria was on hand at the La Mamounia Hotel Inauguration in Morocco. Like any person spending Thanksgiving in Morocco I'm sure she had a good time! Daria arrived with fellow Canadian counterparts Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared (I am sure you remember them) who were in town to shoot the Spring Summer 2010 DSquared campaign. A news article alludes to the fact that Daria may be the campaign girl, but this isn't 100% confirmed. If it is true though, that is two campaigns for Spring ... Stefanel and DSquared! Apparently other party goers weren't as enthusiastic at the event (Daria finally smiles!) ... despite urging Brian Ferry (of Roxy Music fame) to sing some karaoke the frontman denied the offer. Honestly, I can't really say that Daria missed out!

Vogue Nippon January 2010: Going Nomad
The Vogue Nippon cover was posted at theFashionSpot and I am pleasantly surprised. It is quite a departure from Daria's previous cover for January 2009. The styling is more relaxed as is the pose and I think this pertains to Daria style much more. And albeit the fact that the omniprescent "G" is still there, it is not as distracting as January 2009 ... in fact I've become quite used to it! As is habit with Vogue Nippon covergirls, there is no editorial inside, but hopefully a "Making Of" the cover story scan will be posted! Which do you prefer? January 2009 or January 2010?

Vogue Nippon January 2010
It seems that Vogue Nippon is establishing new traditions ... Daria will be on the January 2010 issue of Vogue Nippon! This comes a year after her Vogue Nippon January 2009 cover which can be seen below. Hopefully, this latest cover will not be as layout-challenged as the last cover was - I think we all remember the hate that oddly placed 'G' stirred. The majority of Vogue Nippon cover girls don't get an editorial but hopefully Daria will be the exception. After all, she did have her top editorial of the year in this Japanese magazine. And the cover is shot by Inez and Vinoodh ... all signs point to something great.

Behind the scenes of the Vogue Nippon January 2009 cover ...

I'd also like to write a few words on an unfortunate event that happened late last week ... I am sure a few of you have heard of the untimely demise of Korean model Daul Kim. This news came as a shock considering that Daul was a brilliant personality and always seemed full of vivacity. She was a beautiful model and who's career I followed closely. To hear of her death was a surprise but yet again a reminder of the harshness of the fashion industry. Daul, I just want to say that you were amazing and you will be missed. Stay gold.
Happy Birthday Daria!
Today is Daria's 26th birthday! I want to make a post just to say happy birthday Daria (who knows - maybe you've come across this site once), and many more to come!
I also want to make a quick shout out to all the readers of the site - thanks for coming everyday and bearing with my odd musings here and there. It's always a nice surprise to see a new follower or a comment :)
And also, a thank you to Daria who keeps inspiring me to run this site. Ever since I first became interested in models and fashion Daria was the first model I really noticed. She has managed to remain the most beautiful and interesting of the bunch! And because no post is ever complete without a picture I wanted to include this editorial below. It was the first time I learned of Daria, and coincidentally this editorial was also the first issue of Vogue that I bought (with the Presley girls on the cover). It was the Age issue and I remember devouring every article ... particularly one feature in which Daria talks of her modeling experiences so far and her life as a twenty year old woman. Who knows, maybe she'll be featured in the "Thirties" one day!
POINT BREAK | Vogue US December 2009 by Mert and Marcus
After a few restless days and multiple visits to The Fashion Spot I finally have my hands on Daria's latest editorial in Vogue. When word got out that Daria was photographed by the duo of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot a ready made picture came to mind.
Mert and Marcus are well known for their stylized and powerful depictions of woman. Though I like the editorials Daria does with Mert and Marcus - they always bring out a sense of athleticism and strength - I always feel that they are missing a humane aspect. Daria is oft found looking into the distance and there is no real connection established between the viewer and the model. Suffice to say I always find images that are able to make a connection make a larger impact. If you can recall the April 2009 Vogue US editorial "The Deep End" (both were shot by M&M) it has a similar tone and theme. The opening shot is quite dominant, but it is diluted in the later images. It isn't necessarily a bad thing though. I find myself gravitating towards this editorial more ... perhaps it is the quirkier styling or less static poses, but I find Point Break to be quite entertaining.

Vogue Nippon December 2009
ETA: Previews of Daria's editorial have been posted at the Fashion Spot here and here ... Without getting ahead of myself, I think that this is the best editorial of the year. I'll post a proper post as soon as I have written something substantial!
A quick post on news from the December issue of Vogue Nippon - Daria has a new editorial! tFS member s'gnac clues us in on the details:
- Daria W by (Inez van) Lamsweede & (Vinoodh) Matadin! She stands in the barley field, sometimes half-naked, and one pic, almost wears nothing, As if she says, "Please catch me in the Rye."(Please note I don't know if it is Rye field or not). Or Vogue version of Field of Dreams?
This sounds amazing! Hopefully there will be scans soon, but now there is an editorial to look forward to for the end of the year!
Also, I've found a larger image of Daria's latest Lancome advertisement from this post and this way, no scans are needed. It really is quite pretty, although her eyes look more hazel than they do blue!
End of the Week Treat | Daria in Brazil
I just stumbled upon this beautiful set of photos, taken back in 2007, when Daria was promoting Lancome in Brazil. It's always great to find unseen photographs, especially when they are as stunning as these are. I often wonder how much unseen material there really is on the internet of Daria ...
Lancome 2009
A model with a beauty contract means an abundance of beauty shots, and such is the case at the moment with Daria. Two new ads from Lancome have been released, and in her four year contract with the French beauty brand, these are my favourites so far. Compared to previous years, the airbrushing is less and there is actually a semblance of Daria in these photos!

I also think that when comparing this to her recent Vogue Russia cover and editorial, I can safely say that I like these shots more. The Vogue Russia editorial was too garish for the simple fact that when Daria is doused in makeup, she simply loses her appeal.

Daria at an Event for The Bay
Searching for news of the November issue of Vogue Russia, I came across this new picture of Daria at a recent event. She attended the opening of The Room, which is the relaunch of Canadian Retailer The Bay's luxury boutique. She looks great :)

Daria on Vogue Russia ... ?
The cover rumor thread at the fashion spot is buzzing with news of the November issue of Vogue Russia ... apparently Daria will be next month's covergirl! The issue will drop at any moment now, so we'll see if this rumor is true. I don't believe Daria has ever worked for Vogue Russia before, and she definitely hasn't had a cover. According to tFS member youarearockstar the cover is similar to Kate Moss' September issue ... this should be interesting!
90 Years of Vogue Covers : The Video
Canadian Walk of Fame | The Awards Show
There is finally a video of Daria presenting Canadian designers Dean and Dan Caten with their Walk of Fame award. I told you that the Canadian press is slow on their news! And you can see that Daria is adorably nervous in the video. There is also a quick video of Daria on the red carpet, which can be seen here. I placed subtitles below this video of host Anne Murray describing Daria - the self proclaimed tomboy!
Also, a fun fact. If you remember from last years awards, Daria had trouble finding a dress to suit her cast! This year it looks like she had some wardrobe functions as well! Her airline lost her luggage, and the two DSquared designers had to quickly outfit her for the shows!
"Our first presenter is a self proclaimed tomboy. Although that's a little hard to believe when you consider that Vogue magazine profiled her as one of the leading faces in the return of the supermodel. Please welcome, fashion icon and a member herself of Canada's Walk of Fame, Daria Werbowy!"
A kind reader asked for a translation of Daria's speech, so here is what she said. I don't know how to make subtitles on a video though, so I will just post the transcript. Daria mostly just gave a little background behind the designers rise to recognition
"In fashion its no small feat to captivate an audience, even once. DSquared has managed to consistently do so since 1994. Dan and Dean are designers who don’t rely on changing trends. They evolve from within and they are the ones that the rest follow. In the last fifteen years, Canada’s most famous fashion duo, have built a loyal following around the world. The twins are known for their extravagant runway shows. Their fashions are must haves for some of the biggest stars in the world. Their motto, my favourite, "born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy" and you can bet they'll never forget that first part"
The Fifth Time Is a Charm | Vogue Paris October 2009
Apparently, the powers that be at Vogue Paris have quite the obsession with Daria as of late. Kuklina at the fashist forums posted a cryptic message this Tuesday:
Vogue Paris Oct...
Daria again on the cover ? We'll see...
If kuklina is right, as she usually is, then this will be Daria's third cover of the year, and her fifth altogether! Each cover so far has explored different themes and variations, and I expect the newest one to continue in the tradition. If this rumor does come out to be true I won't complain!

12th Annual Canadian Walk of Fame
From the Sunglass Hut in Times Square to Yonge Street in Toronto, Daria has been quite busy as of late! Daria attended the 12th Annual Canadian Walk of Fame in Toronto where she presented an award to Dsquared designers Dean and Dan Caten for their achievement in the fashion industry. She looked great - at least she didnt break her foot again! The whole look is very nonchalant and very much Daria - I love her style. I'll try to find as many pictures as possible, but the Canadian press is notoriously slow in posting pictures! To see more images from last year though, you can visit the old blog here
P.S. Are any readers of this site Canadian? Robert Munsch got his star on the Walk of Fame and I thought that was pretty cool - I grew up reading his books!
Canadian Walk of Fame | Take Two
It looks like Daria will be attending Canadas Walk of Fame yet again - and no, she isn't recieving a star for the second time!
Daria is one of the many guests, including Rachelle Lefevre, Paula Patton and Brian Williams, to present awards to a new group of Walk of Fame inductees. Daria will be presenting an award to Dean and Dan Caten (of fashion label Dsquared2) for their work in the fashion industry. Hopefully this year, I might be able to go to the red carpet and take a few pictures, as I missed out on Daria's 2008 visit. This is the good thing of having a Canadian model to admire - she comes back and visits her roots! The awards are tonight so make sure to catch the show on TV!
FASHIONS NIGHT OUT | THE SUNGLASS HUT
The mecca of models, designers and celebritites that is Fashions Night Out has gone and past. Last night, Daria was at the Sunglass Hut where she posed for pictures with guests. From the pictures in the gallery she looks like such a friendly and personable girl, always laughing. Plus, she has amazing style! Is anyone else in love with her all black combo? I am so jealous of the attendees - FNO looked like so much fun, with all of the events I could never have been able to come up. Did anyone go? Or better yet, did any readers see Daria? There are dozens of pictures and eventually I will keep adding more to the gallery. Daria overload!
UK Glamour October 2009
"Daria has an 8 pg beauty article ..." in the newest issue as well as an interview.
Snaps should be available soon, but for now, enjoy this new picture by Tom Munro - perfect theme considering the latest news!
FASHION'S NIGHT OUT: PSA

Imagine my surprise when I see Daria on a local entertaintment news show! I was flipping through channels when I came across a Fashions Night Out PSA airing on E!. In the group of people promoting the event, there was a tall scruffy model .... Who else could it be but Daria? She is one of the many celebrities, models and designers promoting FNO in a public service announcement, which can be seen on the event's website here. Just keep your eyes peeled for the tall boyish model :P
Also, not much news on the editorial front - all of the September magazines have been released and Daria's only editorial is in Vogue US. Hopefully October will be a more fruitful month!
Fashion's Night Out
In relation to the Sunglass Hut post, where attendees of the annual Fashion's Night Out event can meet Daria and pose for pictures, the editorial in Vogue US' September issue is actually one shot of all participating models in FNO. Daria was shot in a huge group of gorgeous girls, but I still find her to stand out - it helps that she's standing with her body facing to the camera! And her look is very Daria - I wonder if the models got to style their outfits?

Say Cheese With Daria ...
Fashion's Night Out is an annual event in its second year, where models, designers, photographers and the big guns of the fashion world team up to "promote retail, restore consumer confidence, and celebrate fashion". Which basically means its a huge shopping event where people spend, spend, spend.
If you happen to be in New York on September 10th, then you have the chance to meet Daria in Vogue's Sunglass Hut - "a fun interactive photo station where consumers can take snapshots with Daria while trying on sunglasses and share them with friends via Facebook and email." You can view the rest of the details here.
And for more on Vogue Eyewear, they've updated their site, where they include a cheesy but cute "Daria's Diary" section, along with a new behind the scenes video, and pictures.
P.S. If any Daria Files readers go to the event, I'd love to see the pictures!
FLARE SEPTEMBER 2009 | CANADA'S MOST BEAUTIFUL
In celebration of Flare magazines 30th anniversary, the Canadian magazine has decided to place Daria Werbowy on not one but three covers for their collectors issue. Coming back from vacation and seeing this cover I wasn't surprised that Flare picked Daria as their covergirl - they've had a longstanding history of collaborations. And they didn't let down this time, as they have shot one of the best editorials to come from 2009 (and one of the best covers). Daria was shot in rough and tough leather and the Flare editorial team really played up her personal style, as opposed to giving her a character to work with. The bunny cover is my favourite as well. You can read the full interview here.

Declaring Indigo | The Movie
The Declaring Indigo collection from Lancome was launched a couple of weeks ago - in this video Lancome's artistic director Aaron de Mey talks of his inspirations (I would have never thought this collection was inspired by the French Revolution!) and there is some footage of Daria filming and in between takes. If you'd like to see some more images from the collection I've added a few new shots to an old post here
Declaring Indigo
Daria took a cruise this past week, or at least her likeness, at a presentation of Lancomes Declaring Indigo line for beauty bloggers. My blogger friend Monica from Miss at la Playa was there, and there are some new pictures.
Tatler UK July 2009 | My Close-Up
It seems that we finally have that Tatler UK interview I posted news about a while back.
There are no new pictures or information, really just a collection of Daria's beauty tips from previous interviews. But for those of you interested here is the scan, courtesy of the Daria Werbowy Gallery.
SI Style
Recently, Daria was in Munich at the presentation of Lancome Hypnose. While there, she gave an interview for Schweizer Illustrierte Style (or SI Style) which is, I'm guessing, a Swiss magazine... Anyways, there are new candids as well as a cover from the SI style site. Theres no preview of whats inside the magazine, but the SI site usually posts their editorial feautures online after the magazine is put out, so hopefully we can see that later. The cover is a reprint of her Fashion Canada September 08 cover.
For a quick recap of the interview, Daria talks about sailing and modeling, how shes the muse to Christophe Decarnin of Balmain and Matthew Williamson. Hopefully, we'll have the scans soon.
Also, for those of you curious about the missing picture of Daria's recent Vogue US editorial, click here. Its my favourite picture of the editorial.
PS - thanks gina at tFS
